Based on her observations of shadows upon the ground, the artist spent many months experimenting with a method to express objects in two dimensions on canvas. When the objects are alive or perishable like fruit and even people and other objects, they are transformed into paintings of them. The transient nature of her art style is apparent and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's works is a photograph. Trompe l'oeil is achieved using the two processes of photographing and painting. It creates two-dimensional flattened image. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models with the 3-dimensional world around them, allowing them to engage with the self-created universe. The line that separates photography and painting is dissolved.
